Upcoming facility to serve as America’s sustainable aquaculture center on Earth
Jonesport, Maine, November 29, 2021Kingfish, a pioneer and leader in sustainable aquaculture on land, has announced that it has completed the purchase of land for its new facility in Jonesport, Maine. The purchase follows approval of two final permits from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP) earlier this month, allowing Kingfish Maine to continue work on schedule with pre-construction design and engineering. Critical hydraulics permits were obtained earlier in 2021.

The current annual production capacity of the Kingfish Zeeland facility in the Netherlands is 1,500 tons of high quality and valuable Kingfish Yellowtail.
Expansion is underway and capacity in the Netherlands will reach 3,500 tons in the second half of 2022. In the US, licensing, design and engineering for the company’s approximately 8,500-ton facility are at an advanced stage.
Production is based on Advanced Aquatic Recycling Systems (RAS), which protect biodiversity and ensure biosecurity. Animal welfare is critical and fish are raised without the use of antibiotics and vaccines. The operations operate using 100 percent renewable energy from wind, solar and biogas. The company’s facilities run on sea water, so precious fresh water is not wasted.
