Japanese figure skater Ryoyu Kobayashi won the second race of the Four Hills Tour in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. The 25-year-old Asian jumped a little more than Germany’s Markus Eisenbechler: 291.2 at 291. Slovenian Lovro Kos came third with a score of 286.
Kobayashi sparkled with his first jump of 143 metres. Eisenbechler jumped 143.5 meters on his second attempt, after which Kobayashi had enough to take victory in his second jump of 135.5 meters. Eisenbechler started with 141 metres.
Isbichler would have become the first German winner since Sven Hannawald in 2002.
Kobayashi was also the best in Oberstdorf on Thursday.
Three years ago, Kobayashi was the best on the Four Hills Tour. Then he won all four matches. Kobayashi could become the first skater to win a Tour of Four Hills undefeated twice.
The Four Hills Tour is now moving to Austria. Innsbruck and Bischofshofen form the backdrop for the last two games.
Poland’s Kamil Stoch, who won for the third time last year at the Vershan Championship, is already missing the opportunity to extend the title after a poor start.
