Croatia is too strong for Latvia
Croatian footballers have made a big step towards next year’s European Championship in Germany. The No. 3 won the last World Cup over Latvia (0-2) and now ranks second in the group behind already qualified Turkey.
Croatia led 0-2 after 16 minutes. Feyenoord player Luka Ivanoucic set up Lovo Majer’s first goal and Andrej Kramaric scored the second goal. Ivanoucik was replaced an hour later. Ajax defender Josip Sutalo played the entire match for Croatia. Cambuur striker Roberts Uldrikis was in Latvia’s starting line-up, but was substituted just before the end.
Croatia has two more points than Wales, which disappointed Armenia (1-1) earlier on Saturday. Lucas Zelarayan put the home team ahead in the fifth minute. Wales equalized in stoppage time of the first half through an own goal scored by Nair Teknizian.
The Croats will conclude their qualifying campaign on Tuesday with a home match against Armenia. Wales then hosts Türkiye.
