A lucrative asylum reception at hotels leads to a dispute within the famous Van der Valk catering family. Bob van der Valk, the ousted hotel manager in Duyven, is accused by his uncles of “large-scale fraud” in contracts with the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA). He is said to have earned profits worth tens of millions of euros Daily Finance.
The conflict was the subject of a lawsuit in Utrecht on Friday. According to the uncles, 35-year-old Bob van der Valk embezzled profits and commissions “at the expense” of the hotel group. As hotel manager in Dueven, he helped the family group conclude asylum reception contracts. He was making money through a COA broker looking for hotel rooms.
According to his uncles, who run Van der Valk Exclusief Hotels, Bob and his business partner were charging inexplicably high profit margins. They suspended him from work at the beginning of this year. Bob is ready to leave the company, but both parties were in court Friday over the terms.
When searching for hotel rooms for asylum seekers, COA entered into a contract with the LCHD of Didam, which acted as an intermediary. According to Van der Valk Exclusive (over 40 hotels), “profitable profits” have been made. COA paid exclusive hotels approximately €100 less per room than LCHD. Multi-year deals with several Van der Valk hotels would result in a profit of more than €115 million.
