Mario Kart 8 recently became the best-selling racing game of all time in the US. The sales numbers for the WiiU and Nintendo Switch version finally pushed Mario Kart Wii from the throne. Which Reports Matt Pescatella of the NPD group.
Although we don’t know the exact sales numbers in the US, Mario Kart 8 originally appeared on the Wii U in 2014 and has sold 8.45 million copies worldwide as of September 30, 2020. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released on the Switch back in 2014. 2017 and has sold 33.41 million times worldwide as of December 31, 2020.
On the other hand, Mario Kart Wii has sold 37.38 million copies as of September 30, 2020. Although both Mario Kart 8 have sold more than Mario Kart Wii at 41.86 million copies worldwide, the NPD Group report is the first confirmation of That Mario Kart 8 overtook the US Wii portion as well.
Fun Fact: Sales of Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart Wii combined at 79.24 million units sold remain close to the 82.90 million units sold by Wii Sports (as of September 30, 2020).

Piscatella shared this news as part of the NPD Group’s March 2021 video game sales breakdown, which also revealed that the PS5 is now the fastest-selling console in US history, in both unit and dollar sales.
