Fight zombies or immerse yourself in a world full of wizards. This has been possible since last year at the Swaenenborgh shopping center in Meppel. Organizer Warrior Events has raised funds and wants to expand the site into the first “real theme park” in the Netherlands.
And that expansion is already happening. The site’s builders are busy transforming an abandoned shopping mall into a gaming paradise. “There will be a secret military base, a creepy supermarket, a bar, a plaza, and much more,” says creator Alita Smit. “For example, people will soon be able to play Cluedo alive.”
Because that’s the whole idea of Warrior Events. You’re not playing a game behind a screen, but in real life, with your friends. “In a zombie game you have to find a vaccine to combat the outbreak. During the game you’ll encounter dozens of actors who either help you or don’t help you,” explains Smit.
According to her, the creation of a “real amusement park”, which will be called “The Last World” from January, is a dream come true. The shopping center offers 4,000 square meters of play area and, according to Smit, will be the first and largest (for now) in our country.
The company has raised money through various funds to expand further. “Of course, that doesn’t cover everything, but we’ve come a long way,” says Smit. “And we also have to contribute enough of the money we make from ticket sales.”
