Microsoft is distributing a “Microsoft Bing Service 2.0” update, which is apparently related to the internal search engine Bing, for Windows 11 and Windows 10 operating systems, leaving users confused. So far, however, it is only a not working launcher.
Community member “FR3DI” reported automatic installation of the “Microsoft Bing Service 2.0” update on Windows 10 on a ComputerBase forum for the first time. A little later, ComputerBase reader “Goldsmith” confirmed the presence of the update on Windows 11 via a screenshot. The update was delivered and installed automatically on one of the author’s test systems with Windows 10, but it can’t be removed easily.
Location office modr Look at the update in detail shortly and also checked the registry under Windows 11 after the update.
Inactive launcher in autostart
As the website found out, after installing the “Microsoft Bing Service 2.0” service, the launcher makes itself comfortable with the automation of the operating system. The service itself consists of the following three applications:
- BDAStartMSI.exe
- BGAStartMSILauncher.exe
- BDAUpdate.exe
The still-inactive launcher is suspected of being connected to gadgets, which are also supposed to migrate to the desktop as “interactive content” in Windows 11 23H2, and WebView2 controls in Edge.
Microsoft is planning something with Bing
It is currently only possible to speculate on what Microsoft intends to do with the service and the operator associated with it. The update is obviously related to background searching for Windows 11 and Windows 10 and Bing API.
While the background search service of Microsoft Search is in Bing as well as applications such as Windows process BingSvc.exe
As for the operating system’s Bing search bar, already represented anyway, Microsoft Bing Service 2.0 may be the successor to the Bing service, which is no longer represented in the Windows Community Toolkit.
As Microsoft increasingly connects its products, it may also be a microcosm for Bing in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft enterprise solutions.
Uninstall is not possible
At the moment, the completely inactive Bing launcher sits without function in the program directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\BingSvc
As well as autorun. The fact that this is happening without any notice from Microsoft is not well received everywhere. Uninstalling the service is not currently possible. The MicrosoftSearchInBingv2.0 (MSI) service installation in turn can run directly through a Microsoft server.
No solution or explanation found in the “What is Microsoft Update for “Microsoft Bing Service 2.0″” thread in the ComputerBase Forum. Did you already receive the update?
Microsoft will continue to rebuild Windows 11 with the 22H2 (“Sun Valley 2”) and 23H2 (“Sun Valley 3”) feature updates and will continue to rely on the operating system model as a software as a service (SaaS) model. Then install some new services without prior notice.
How do ComputerBase readers feel about it? Are you bothered by the lack of transparency or do you simply accept it with the prospect of new jobs?
