Netflix has bought the exclusive streaming rights to World Wrestling Entertainment, which organizes wrestling matches. It is the live streaming company's first big step into the live events sector.
Netflix will stream the wrestling show “Raw” starting in January 2025 in the United States, Canada, Latin America and other countries. The show has high viewing figures in the United States.
Netflix promises to stream three hours of live wrestling every week. It will be a 10-year deal worth $5 billion.
Netflix has more than 200 million customers for on-demand movies and TV series, but hopes to add millions of loyal WWE viewers.
It's Netflix's first major streaming deal, but the company has previously experimented with a live-action comedy special and a golf tournament.
