Nikon is currently planning to introduce a new Z lens for telephoto. The show could still take place in February.
Telephoto lenses in focus
If you look at the alleged new lenses from Canon and Nikon, it becomes very clear that telephoto lenses seem to be the focus of both manufacturers at the moment. Canon is rumored to release the RF 800mm f/5.6 and RF 1200mm f/8 soon, while Nikon has already revealed a new Z 400mm f/2.8 in January 2022.

But it also looks like Nikon is on the cusp of introducing another Z lens in the telephoto range, as Nikonrumors’ website indicates that Nikon will soon be releasing the new camera. Nikon Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S. will present. At B&H, the new lens has already been listed in the store and it wouldn’t primarily be surprising if Nikon interacted with the Canon RF 800mm f/5.6 offering with its own 800mm lens offering.
In addition, Nikon itself already announced in December 2021 that it is working on this lens. At the time, the first photo of the lens was published (see image above) and the manufacturer indicated that it would be the first Z lens with a phased Fresnel (PF) lens. Accordingly, you can expect a relatively light and compact lens, but it certainly isn’t cheap.
More new products from Nikon
Other than that, Nikon is likely not too far from offering the Nikon Z 85mm f/1.2, and Nikonrumors has also been rumored to have heard about a major firmware update for the Nikon Z6 II and Nikon Z7 II for several months, which will be released in the summer of 2021. The completion of this firmware update, which should bring improvements to the auto focus and electronic viewfinder, appears to be slowly but surely approaching.
