Sjoerd den Daas will be NOS's new North American correspondent. In August he stopped in Beijing and returned to the Netherlands for a few months. His first big job in the United States will be helping cover the US presidential election in November.
Sjoerd den Das (37) has been correspondent on China and the rest of East Asia for nine years, the last five of which have been for NOS. He will be succeeded by Laura Van Megen. “In recent years, I have been able to report from a wonderful region with great pleasure and enthusiasm. It has not always been easy, but it has rarely been boring, and it would not be that way in the United States at the moment,” says den Das about his transition. “I consider it a great honor and privilege to be able to strengthen NOS’s experienced team in Washington.”
NOS News Editor-in-Chief Giselle Van Kaan: “In recent years, Sjoerd has taken our audience into the fabric of Chinese society. He has, at times with courage and tenacity, created human stories while at the same time providing insight into the world's larger connections. He takes that knowledge and experience with him to the United States, a country that – like China – has enormous influence on developments in the rest of the world.
