Spanish fashion company Inditex, known for brands such as Zara and Bershka, will significantly expand its distribution center in Lelystad. A total of 123,000 square meters will be added until the second half of 2025 to meet the growing demand for fashion. The total area is about 300 thousand square meters.
Inditex announced the expansion last month when presenting its annual figures for 2023. A spokesperson confirmed the expansion on Thursday at Financieele Dagblad. According to the newspaper, the complex will be the largest distribution center in the Netherlands. The building is located in Larserpoort Business Park (Lelystad Airport Business Park).
In recent months, work has already been done to expand automated warehouses. This is where Zara's men's fashion is stored, which is brought in by truck from Spain.
From Lelystad, clothes are sent by truck and via Schiphol to stores around the world. Next to Inditex there is also a large building where clothes are ironed.
Inditex is one of the largest fashion groups in the world. In addition to Zara and Zara Home, it has brands such as Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti, Oysho and Stradivarius. The company has approximately 5,700 stores worldwide. The turnover reached approximately 36 billion euros in 2023 with a net profit of 5.4 billion euros.
Inditex will invest €900 million annually over the next two years in its logistics capacity in Valencia, Zaragoza and Lelystad. The Dutch branch is the only company outside Spain. The complex was commissioned in May 2019.
The current distribution center covers approximately 170,000 square metres. The site consists of storage areas and a large number of loading and unloading stations for trucks and offices.
