President Joe Biden reiterated that the AIPAC Committee (United States) does not agree to recognize the State of Palestine.
Ireland, Norway and Spain decided to recognize Palestine. According to Biden, who declared himself a Zionist, recognition of Palestine will only be possible through negotiations on a two-state solution: a Palestinian state alongside an Israeli state.
Israel and the occupying Palestinians should reach an agreement on this matter, according to the US President. In announcing its recognition of Palestine, Ireland stressed that the matter relates to Palestine, which was illegally occupied by Israel in 1967.
The international community has been pressing for decades for the return of the territories occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem, in order to establish the State of Palestine. Israel rejects this, and has since built thousands of illegal settlements.
In April, the United States vetoed a proposal at the United Nations to make Palestine a full member of the United Nations as a state. The number of its member states is 193, of which 143 states recognize Palestine as a state. Therefore, many politicians, disturbed by authoritarian American policy, are calling for reform of global institutions and cross-border solidarity with the Palestinians.
Palestine is an “observer state” in the People’s Organization and does not vote as a member.
