Fabio Aru will cover his kilometers for his race this year in a Qhubeka ASSOS uniform. The formation of South Africa hoped to accommodate the Italian climber as much as possible and thus decided to include Gabriele Missaglia in the coaching staff.
According to Tuttobiciweb, the former professional rider is the captain of the new Qhubeka ASSOS, but above all Aru close. Italian cycling website Tuttobiciweb wrote: “Missaglia Aru will closely follow and assist Aru in his return to the highest level.”
Missaglia was the CCC’s sporting director in recent years, but the Polish formation has now vanished from peloton cycling. The now 50-year-old Italian raced for Mapei, Lampre-Daikin, and Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli, among others. In 2008 he decided to end his career.
His list of honors include his victories in the Giro d’Italia, Volta Catalunya, the Switzerland Tour, and the Basque Country Tour. He also won the HEW Cyclassics in 2000 and was on the podium in the Amstel and Classica San Sebastian gold races.
