Queen Máxima was in Basel, Switzerland, on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 March. And she wasn't just there, because it had to do with her work as the UN Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Financing for Development (UNSGSA).
Last month, Colombia was the scene of Queen Máxima's work for the United Nations. This week, the Queen did not have to travel far from her homeland, as she was in Basel, Switzerland. Here she visited international standardization organizations and financial sector supervisors (SSBs). Bank for International Settlements (bis). Shariah supervisory bodies establish global guidelines and standards for financial institutions, among others, to ensure the (financial) safety and soundness of their products and services.

Queen Máxima did this in Basel
Queen Máxima wants financial health to be the starting point for the development of financial products, services and policies tailored to meet user needs, the government information service (RVD) wrote on its website. In Basel, discussions included the development of legislation and regulations for “tailored” financial products.

Queen Máxima concluded her visit to Basel with a number of bilateral talks with central bank governors to discuss the state of financial inclusion and financial health in their countries.
Business clothing
During her appointments in Basel, the Queen wore business clothes. On the first day, Maxima wore a burgundy dress from Natan, which has been in her wardrobe since 2018. On the second day, she chose a blue suit from Dries van Noten. The design debuted in 2023 and was worn during a visit to Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.

Switzerland
This is not the first time the Queen has visited Switzerland. Last January, Máxima was in Davos. She visited the World Economic Forum (WEF) with other members of the royal family (including King Philippe and Queen Mathilde) for her role as special advocate for the United Nations.
