Ricciardo receives the award for his role as mentor to young drivers and ambassador for Inner Ninja Foundation. In addition, the Perth-born driver supported several charities during the major bushfires in 2019. including the Australian Red Cross and Wildlife Rescue (WIRES).

The McLaren driver is one of seven people to receive an award this year for their contribution to motorsport in Australia. Officially, Ricardo is allowed to add the abbreviation AM to his name with this honorary title.
