The thirteen Snake Island border guards, who yelled at the Russians on a navy ship saying they could “get clothes” when the ship ordered them to surrender, may not die at all. This can be read in a message from the Ukrainian border guards on Facebook.
“The border guards and the army, like the rest of Ukraine, hope that all the defenders of Snake Island are still alive,” the letter reads. It was initially believed that the border guards were killed due to the loss of contact with them. There are now indications that they are still alive.
Audio clips from the conversation between the border guards and the Russian Navy have spread around the world. “This is a Russian ship,” the Russians asked. “I suggest you surrender your weapons and surrender. Otherwise, I will open fire. Do you understand that?” Then he heard that the Ukrainian border guards were consulting with each other. One of them asked a colleague, “This is it. Shall I say he can wear clothes?” Then he turned the volume knob and let the Russians say loud and clear: “Put your clothes on.”
