The Dutch national team in the Davis Cup will face Italy in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup finals next November. On Malaga’s hard court, captain Paul Haarhuis’s team hopes to reach the semi-finals at the expense of Jannik Sinner, Matteo Berrettini and others. The other quarter-final matches will be held between Canada, Finland, Czech Republic, Australia, Great Britain and Serbia.
Team captain Paul Haarhuis is looking forward to the meeting with the Italians. “It is a very strong team, with a wide range of the best players including Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti and Berrettini,” he said in a message from the tennis federation KNLTB on Split. “Then we can beat anyone.”
Last week, the Netherlands secured its place in the quarter-finals in Split, Croatia, with the final tournament starting at the end of November in Malaga, Spain. Led by Haarhuis, the Dutch national team finished first in the group in which it met Finland, Croatia and the United States.
The Dutch defeated Finland for the first time in the group stage, and then did a great job against the United States. Botic van de Zandschulp was too strong at the time for Tommy Paul, while Talon Francipoure defeated Frances Tiafoe, No. 11 in the world. The final tournament will be held from November 21 to 26.
