The National Weather Service is warning of extreme temperatures in five states, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and parts of Colorado. Temperatures there can rise to over 38 degrees Celsius.
“Very warm weather will last until Saturday, followed by a gradual cooling over the next week. Be careful because heat can kill! The most important thing is to continue to drink a lot and do not leave children or pets in a hot car.”
Temperature records have already been smashed in Salt Lake City, Palm Springs and elsewhere, and temperatures in Phoenix are expected to soar more than 47C on Friday. It’s miserable, you literally don’t leave your house unless you have to,” said Hannah Knight, a 20-year-old waitress at Coronado Cafe in Phoenix.
Knight said the restaurant has an outside dining area, but “when the temperature gets over 110 degrees Fahrenheit (more than 43 degrees Celsius), there’s no way to make it comfortable.”
Temperatures are expected to be recorded in many cities, including Las Vegas, where the mercury is likely to rise above 45 degrees.
