French police have arrested six suspects accused of stealing a collection from fashion house Balmain, Agence France-Presse reported France Press agency. The six people, in their twenties, were arrested in a suburb of Paris. Some of the stolen items were reportedly found during a search of the house.
The 50th item of clothing was stolen last September, ten days before Balmain's new collection was shown at Fashion Week.
According to Olivier Rousteing, Balmain's artistic director, the truck containing the collection was hijacked by an armed group. That bus was on its way from Paris airport to the fashion house's headquarters.
This is an unprecedented theft in the world of fashion. Balmain had to quickly arrange replacement outfits for the fashion show, which continued as usual.
A police source says otherwise France Press agency It does not appear that the perpetrators were summoned to rob this fashion house. “If this had been made to order, the items would have already sold out.”
