Dusseldorf Marvel Fusion, a German startup in the field of fusion technology, has decided to set up a new research facility in North America. In conjunction with Colorado State University, the $150 million project is expected to be completed by 2026. In an interview with Handelsblatt, Marvel Managing Director Heike Freund explains what’s different in the US and how Europe is really threatened in terms of the green tech landscape.

Ms. Freund, Marvel has so far focused on Germany as a location. You are now building your new pretender in the USA. Why?
This demonstration allows us to be the first integrator to have a dedicated laser system suitable for use in power plants. We are now implementing it with Colorado State University by 2026. However, our main site will remain in Munich. And of course we will continue our existing partnerships in Europe.
