The Red Flames U19s managed to qualify for the second round of the A-League at the end of last year with the aim of qualifying for the 2024 European Championship. The opponents on the road to that European Championship in Lithuania were of the possible type, but in the end they did not reach the European Championship.
Serbia eventually won the group against the Belgians, which meant that the Serbs were allowed to go to the European Championship and the Belgians were ultimately not allowed. Meanwhile, the European Championship also started in Lithuania and we were already ready for the semi-finals.
We've included the group standings for completeness after three intense days of play.
Group A
1. England 7
2. France 6
3. Serbia 4
4. Lithuania 0
Group B
1. Netherlands 7
2. Spain 4 (+1)
3. Germany 4 (-1)
4. Ireland 1
The semi-finals were scheduled for Wednesday. Ultimately, Spain and the Netherlands reached the final on Saturday. The Netherlands had the mental advantage, having beaten the Spaniards in the group stage.
Spain wins European Championship after extra time
However, the 1-0 draw in the group stage was not repeated, quite the opposite. Marisa gave the Spaniards an early lead, but thanks to Tolhuk we got the equaliser on the hour mark. This was also the case for regular playing time.
In extra time both teams had chances to make the difference, but it was substitute Enza Eguiguerin Peraza who finally made the difference in the 118th minute. The European title goes once again to Spain.
