Following the completion of Google’s headquarters, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has revealed plans for a new cooking center in San Sebastian, Spain. The building will house startups, researchers and chefs. As the ‘icing on the cake’, the building will have a large green roof where visitors can walk or enjoy the view.

The open gastronomic system is 9,090 square meters and features from the outside gently sloping balconies and an accessible roof. Also striking are the large glazed areas to maximize daylight. Living in the rooftop garden is an invitation to immerse yourself in the art and science of gastronomy.

The building will contain laboratories dedicated to developing new alternative proteins, agricultural robotics, reducing food waste, and other food-related research.

Visitors enter a central hall that extends from the ground floor to the rooftop, with stairs leading to the entrance that serves as an amphitheater for events and lectures. From here the visitor can watch the research in the laboratories and demonstration kitchens. If the appetite is stimulated, visitors can, of course, visit a restaurant on the top floor. Elsewhere there is an auditorium, public terraces and office space.

It is not yet known when the building will be ready, but the project is currently in full swing. The commission was honored after an international architectural competition launched by the Basque Culinary Center.
