Shurandi Martina will miss the 4x100m relay team that will compete at the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene next month. The 37-year-old sprinter, the Dutch record holder and five-time Olympian, is not among the group selected to fight for the world title from July 15-24 in the United States.
Martina announced at the start of the summer season that he did not want to end his career for the time being, and even hinted at participating in the 2024 Games in Paris. He also wanted to be an added value to the relay team, which is one of the best in the world in the 4x100m race. However, the technical staff passes it before the World Cup. Joining the team are Joris van Goul, Raphael Pogo, Hensley Paulina, Elvis Afriva, Timir Burnett and Xavi Mo Agok.
The four athletes who stopped off at the Olympics last summer with a silver medal in the 4x400m relay were also selected for the World Championships in Athletics. Liemarvin Bonevacia, Tony van Diepen, Ramsey Angela and Terrence Agard are part of the team striving for new success. Jochem Daubert, who competed in last year’s Tokyo Games series and thus also took home a medal, is missing from the World Cup team.
Fimk Paul and Lieke Claver are the captains for the 4 x 400 metres, where there is no place for Lisan de Witt. Marej van Hunenstein, sisters Naomi and Zoe Sidney and veteran Jamili Samuel form the heart of the team in the 4×100 metres. Daphne Schippers is not part of the relay team. The two-time world champion in the 200 meters has already indicated that she will not participate in the World Cup.
