Tennis star Suzanne Lammens convincingly advanced to the second round of qualifying for Roland Garros in her first major tournament appearance. The 22-year-old Dutchman left Madison Inglis of Australia 6-2 6-2 without a chance. Ingles is number 126 in the world and has been ranked 18th in the qualifiers.
In the second round, Lammens will face the duel winner between Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova and Alicia Parks of the United States. She needs to win three matches to reach the main draw.
Lamens climbed to 169th in the world rankings and was thus accepted into the preliminary rounds of the Grand Slam for the first time. She is now No. 4 in the Netherlands, behind Arantxa Rus, Lesley Pattinama-Kerkhove and Arianne Hartono.
Patinama Kerkhove and Hartono are also running qualifiers for Roland Garros, as is Rachel Hogenkamp. With the guys, Jesper de Jong and Tim van Rijthoven are trying to get a place in the main tournament. They will all be at work on Tuesday.
Botic van de Zandschulp, Tallon groenpoor and Rus were admitted directly to the main table.
