Unaccompanied minor asylum seekers who arrived in Ter Apel on Wednesday can still be received. “We have been able to give everyone a place through art and craft,” a COA spokesperson told NU.nl. But what tonight will bring remains to be seen.
The spokesman for the Central Agency for Receiving Asylum Seekers says: “The situation remains as it is today.” In other words: he is and is still busy in Ter Apel.
The reception center houses almost as many unaccompanied minor asylum seekers as it did during the height of the crisis last year.
There are currently many young people who come to the Netherlands without parents to apply for asylum. The official spokesman does not know why the group was so large and whether it was larger than usual. “There are a lot of them at the moment,” the spokesman says.

Many young asylum seekers in Ter Apel
Over the night from Wednesday to Thursday, at least 330 unaccompanied minor asylum seekers stayed in Ter Apel. During last year’s peak, 360 young people participated.
The official spokesman expressed his pleasure that the total number of asylum seekers did not exceed two thousand last night. Agreements have been concluded with the municipality of Westerwolde, where Ter Apel is located.
It remains to be seen how the situation will develop on Thursday (evening). The influx of asylum seekers remains large.
The spokesman hopes to be able to provide more information later today. “Everything still works, but it’s definitely not perfect.”
