A seismic shift in Australian defence. From now on, it is no longer necessary to be an Australian citizen to serve in the Australian Defense Force. This measure comes because the Ministry of Defense is no longer able to fill 4,400 vacant positions. In fact, the government wants to expand the army, which currently consists of 63,600 full-time personnel, including vacant positions, to 80,000. Applicants are only eligible if they have a permanent residence permit as immigrants.
