Kees van Wonderen calls for away fans to be banned in the Netherlands, with fan journalist John Graat suggesting that banning fans may be the best option.
“Stop the away fans. It takes a big police presence, a lot of headaches, and we have to get everything ready for a few hundred people,” the Trouw journalist quoted the Heerenveen coach on social media as saying. Graat himself completely agrees with Van Winderen and seems to see banning away fans as a good way to prevent misconduct: “Excellent suggestion from Kees van Winderen in response to the fireworks incident at Heerenveen-AZ,” wrote Graat.

In the encounter between Heerenveen and Arizona, things went wrong after just a few minutes of play on Sunday afternoon, when smoke bombs were thrown onto the pitch from the visitors' box. These were red and yellow smoke bombs, with which the Arizona supporters wanted to illustrate their 'partnership' with SC Heerenveen's arch rival, SC Cambuur. It caused damage to the grass and a long stoppage at the Abby Leinstra Stadium.
