The European Commission assumes that the Netherlands will remain a member of the European Union after the Freedom Party wins the elections. Geert Wilders’ party has always spoken in favor of the so-called Brexit.

A Commission spokesman said: “We continue to rely on the strong participation of the Netherlands in the European Union.” The Freedom Party, which will be by far the largest party in the House of Representatives and could serve as prime minister, has been calling for Brexit for some time.
The European Commission does not believe that the elections “in any way cast doubt on any country’s membership in the European Union.”
The Netherlands is one of the founders of the European Union and therefore a strong member state. However, it will not become easier if the Netherlands is henceforth represented in Brussels by Prime Minister Wilders, EU sources admit. But they’re not too worried.
A high-ranking source in the European Union indicates that fear for the soul of Wilders of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, was also great last year, but it quickly evaporated. As Prime Minister, Meloni moderated her Eurosceptic views.
