A British man traveled 8,000 kilometers across Great Britain, thus raising 35,000 euros for charity. He was inspired by his father’s cycling trip, who also took a long ride years ago, but then barefoot.

22-year-old Josh Jarman suffered all kinds of setbacks during his months-long bike ride. He ended up in the hospital, but that didn’t stop him from completing the journey.

Garman set out in April and biked along the British coast. He ended up with his bike and a yellow trailer where he started: the seaside town of Berwick upon Tweed. The cyclist told the BBC that people had come to cheer him on during the last kilometers of his bike journey.

Twenty raised funds for Hope for Hasti. It funds research into the treatment of Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS), a rare genetic disorder. The foundation was founded by the parents of a girl with this condition.

The bike trip led to a hospital visit

The ride was far from smooth. Jarman was accompanied by his girlfriend in Wales, but she broke up and ended up in the hospital. After a few days, Garman himself had to be accepted. He was exhausted and dehydrated. This halted the flight for weeks.

The adventurer wrote on Instagram that his encounters during the trip helped him a lot. “Every time I was hungry, overwatered, or struggling to move on, I met a kind person who would support me. As a result, my perspective has changed dramatically.”

His hardships earned him the thanks of the founders of Hope for Hasti. Hastie’s father, who traveled more than 1,100 km barefoot to raise money, said he was glad it inspired Garman.

Twenty-something has already announced that he is no longer considering cycling at the moment. My body is broken in every possible way.

Cycling for a long time is popular in many places in the world. Especially in the summer months, adventurers head out to Europe for a bike holiday. The world record for the longest cycling trip is held by Lt. Col. Vishal Ahlawat, an Indian long-distance cyclist. He completed a distance of 25,337 in his home country. Britain’s Mark Beaumont broke the record in 2017 for the longest distance between different countries. In July, travel by bike from Paris to Jerramungup in Western Australia: a distance of at least 11,315.29 kilometres.
