A robotic parking garage has recently been installed at the Claraspital Hotel in Basel. Technical teacher! It is the first of its kind in northwestern Switzerland and is intended to facilitate the arduous search for a parking space for drivers.
It works as follows: The car is parked in the entrance box and the box is left with a parking ticket. The car is in its parking lot in about 60 seconds. It’s easy to get your car back — at least if the technology works.
That was not the case with Blick reader reporter Benny Wyss, 65, on Tuesday lunchtime. His Skoda Superb Combi has been stuck in the parking garage for more than two hours. Even though he had presented his ticket to park the machine, there was no sign of the car being there! Wes is furious: “I will never go there again!”
Many people are affected
According to Wyss, three other people were affected by the technical glitch. Those too had to wait about two hours in front of the garage. Wyss made a phone call to the operators. Finally a service technician was called.
While everyone was patiently waiting for their cars, a car suddenly went upstairs – but it was not owned by any of those present. Keep waiting. Finally, the technician was able to lift the cars upstairs. According to Wyss, he had to restart the system several times for this.
‘Blocked again and again’
Two hours and 15 minutes later, Weiss returned with his car. But he’s disappointed with the high-tech parking garage: “At first it went well, but for a few days it was repeatedly blocked,” he says.
At Blick’s request, Claraspital confirmed a technical failure on Tuesday. In the meantime, the garage is back in business. They say “Of course we are deeply sorry for any inconvenience”. (bra)
