Meat production and trade provides added value to the Dutch economy. Importing raw materials for live animals and fodder for meat export
Dutch meat exports require imports, such as live animals, unprocessed meat or raw materials for animal feed. Live poultry is the largest import category (240 million euros in 2019, mainly from Germany), followed by corn and wheat. Maize (largely from Ukraine) and wheat (mainly from France) as feed raw materials make an indirect contribution to Dutch meat exports. Other feed raw materials are crude palm oil (mainly from Indonesia and Malaysia) and soybeans (mainly from Brazil and the United States).
