About 1,200 people applied for asylum in the Netherlands last week. In the same week last year, the Netherlands registered about nine hundred asylum seekers. For the tenth week in a row, the flow rate was higher than it was in the same week last year.
According to weekly figures issued by the Ministry of Justice and Security, about 13,000 people have applied for asylum since the beginning of October. In the same weeks last year, 10,500 people participated. These are rounded numbers, so actual numbers may vary slightly.
After the travelers
The asylum flow concerns not only new applications, but also, for example, the follow-up of travellers. These are people who are allowed to come to the Netherlands to join a family member who has been granted asylum.
Last year, October and November were also busy, but in December the flow decreased and things became somewhat quieter. This is not happening yet.
Since the beginning of this year, more than 47,000 asylum applications have been submitted, more than this time last year. A year ago, in 2021, there were nearly 34,400 asylum applications in the first 49 weeks of the year.
