Brisbane – Soccer star Angela Versluis of Ferry has made a solid debut in Australia. The Zeeland striker scored the goal and provided an assist for her team FC Lions.
Verslus was only in Australia for a few days. She started on the bench against Souths United on Saturday, but appeared after the break. She scored with a close-range shot in the cross (3-0) and provided the decisive pass for the 5-0 final just before time.
De Zeeuwse played for Excelsior in the Eredivisie last season and before that she played for JVOZ, Sparta and a combination of the two. In Australia, she fills her days with soccer. She herself plays for Brisbane Lions (the captain of the English Premier League in Queensland) and becomes a coach for the youth team.
If Versluis does well, she could switch to Brisbane Roar. This team plays in the Australian League, which is the highest level in Australia. “The first league starts in October,” she previously told this newspaper.
I hope I can train and play some practice matches before the season begins. It remains to be seen if I can really play the competition. FIFA has to give permission because it is an international transfer.”
