South Korea is conducting military exercises with the United States in response to North Korea’s launch of a ballistic missile. The South Korean military says it is practicing precision bombing with two allies.
North Korea launched a missile for the first time in five years that flew over Japanese territory and landed in the Pacific Ocean outside Japanese territory. This was North Korea’s fifth missile test in ten days. US and South Korean intelligence agencies believe that Kim Jong-un is preparing for a nuclear test.
Japan, South Korea and the United States “strongly” condemned the missile test. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said East Asia’s defense cooperation and defense will remain “very strong”.
During the exercises, eight combat aircraft are active with the aim of targeting a “virtual enemy” in the Yellow Sea. The United States and South Korea want to show that they can “respond firmly” to Pyeongchang’s actions.
