The United States has already been eliminated on home soil in the group stage of the Copa America.

KANSAS CITY – The host nation, the United States, has already been eliminated from the Copa America group stage. The U.S. soccer players lost 1-0 to Uruguay in their third-place match. As a result, they finished third in their group.

Uruguay managed to win all their group matches. This was the first time since 1959 that they had not lost a point in a group. Panama finished second in the group.

For the Americans, Ricardo Pepe was allowed to come on just before halftime, but he couldn't make a difference. In the second half, a number of attacking substitutions made by national coach Gregg Berhalter didn't have the desired effect. Matias Oliveira scored the only goal of the evening in Kansas City midway through the second half.

Uruguay will play in the quarter-finals against the runner-up in Group D, which includes Brazil and Colombia. These countries will meet each other on Tuesday night into Wednesday. The Brazilians have four points from two matches, while Colombia has six points.
