Four of Groningen’s international players are scheduled to travel with their country’s national team to play international matches during the coming period. Captain Leandro Bacuna plays for Curaçao. Defender Themen Blokzijl and goalkeeper Jasper Meister have joined the Netherlands U19 squad. Training player Samuel Dekus has been selected for the Slovakia U18 national team. All players have completed FC Groningen training or are still part of training.
Clubs from the Kitchen Champion Division have been given the option this year of not having to play football during international matches. Twelve clubs, including FC Groningen, have benefited from this.
Leandro Bacuna has two away matches against Curacao in the Concacaf Nations League A. On Friday, September 8, at midnight Dutch time, the Curacao squad will visit Trinidad and Tobago. The first leg against Martinique will be played on Sunday, September 10 at 10pm.
Defender Themen Blokzijl and goalkeeper Jasper Meister have been selected for the Netherlands U19 squad. Groningen coach Mischa Visser will train against his Italian counterparts on Monday, September 11. The match will be held in Prato and kick off at 4:30pm.
Training player Samuel Dekus, who plays for FC Groningen U18s, has been selected for the Slovakia U18s. There are three international matches scheduled for the attacking midfielder this period. Slovakia will practice against Switzerland on Wednesday, and is scheduled to play a training match against the Czech Republic on Friday, September 8, and Ukraine will be the opponent on Sunday, September 10.
