This is the appropriate moment for party leaders to dust off the electoral rhetoric and polish simple phrases. The leaders of the three major parties will exchange political swords on a number of thorny issues tonight in the first TV debate, which traditionally starts on RTL 4. On November 22, 1963, the world was shocked by the assassination of the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy. Less than an hour later, former soldier Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested, not only for Kennedy’s assassination, but also for the assassination of police officer J.D. Tippett. There will be no conviction. Two days after his arrest, Oswald was shot and killed by nightclub owner Jack Ruby. One Day in America takes a look back at those fateful days.
