In the eighth game, thanks to his own serve, the Spaniard settled four points for the match, but the match after that was still broken. The match lasted about three and a half hours.
“It was the first time I couldn’t stand the pressure,” the Spanish teenager said afterwards. 19-year-old Alcaraz on social media.
Kyrgios is too strong for Medvedev
In the next match on the center court, the world number one also lost. In the first set, the Russian and Kyrgios held all the service games, after which Medvedev managed to win the tiebreak. Then he hit the Australian who reached the Wimbledon final, so the third set had to be played here as well. In it, Kyrgios had to deal with early stops, only to beat Medvedev after he pounced on them and finish 6-2.
Medvedev was the defending champion in the Masters. Last year, the Russian won the title in Canada by defeating American Riley Opelka in the final. “This is the fourth time we have played against each other and I have succeeded against him in the past,” Kyrgios said afterwards. ,, But he already hit me once. I feel like we know each other’s match well. I’m not the type to look at the standings when he starts a match, it’s just about who I play against and the balls they give me.”
Kyrgios had a good plan how he wanted to play against the Russians. I had in mind how I was going to play, a lot of serving, quick shooting and aggressive play from behind.”
