VENTIMIGLIA – A truck driver discovers about thirteen migrants, mostly women, in his truck on Monday morning, July 15. The man then literally throws the migrants out of his trailer with a belt.
The migrants may have wanted to go to France via the Italian border town. Photos taken at the port of Ventimiglia are currently circulating on social media.
In the short video, we see the truck driver holding the tow strap with the steel end in his hand, and allowing the migrants who were in the truck to get out. The man then whips several women as they get out of the trailer. Someone filmed the incident with their cell phone and posted the video on Facebook instead of calling the police.
The incident is being investigated by police. The driver, who is from Eastern Europe, is being investigated. He faces criminal charges. “If he had been caught with the women on board, he could have been reported in France for aiding and abetting immigration. The way he treated the women was completely unacceptable,” Italian media said on Tuesday.
The Italian newspaper Secolo XIX reported that the migrants in question were of Eritrean nationality. The night before the incident, they reportedly spent the night at the Ventimiglia shelter. After the incident, according to the newspaper, the women returned to Caritas and told what had happened to them.
