He claimed Tuesday that the United States has immunity “approaching 15 percent,” and appears to support the idea of developing herd immunity to combat the Coronavirus, an idea widely questioned by health experts as dangerous.
During a press conference at the White House summit on the Coronavirus, a reporter asked Trump what he would say to the American people regarding the increasing number of cases. Trump responded by appearing to be portraying the high number of coronavirus infections in the United States in a positive light.
“I think the vaccine was our target. That was # 1, because that’s how it ends up,” Trump said. Plus, you have immunity. I’ve developed immunity over a period of time and I’ve heard we’re approaching 15 percent, and I’m hearing that and that’s great. This is a very powerful vaccine in itself. “

Herd immunity is the point at which a disease does not spread in a population because a sufficient number of people have become immune to it through vaccination or infection.

Atlas is a neuroradiologist with no background in infectious diseases.
Health experts, including those at Stanford University, where the Atlas is being studied, decried his promotion of this idea and called it dangerous, stating that many vulnerable people must theoretically die for herd immunity to work.
The Washington Post indicates that it is unclear where Trump got the 15 percent, especially since the United States has exceeded 15 million cases of coronavirus, less than 5 percent of the population.
It has not yet been proven that people develop immunity to the coronavirus after infection, and re-infections have been observed, often with more severe symptoms the second time around.
