Turkish Airlines announced today, Friday, that it will launch flights to its first destination in Australia, starting mid-next March.
The Turkish flag carrier will fly three times a week between Istanbul and Melbourne, with a stop in Singapore.
“We are delighted to add Melbourne as the 346th destination to our network. Australia, with its natural beauty and hospitable people, will be the 130th country and sixth continent under our wings,” said Chairman Ahmet Polat.
The statement said the new flights will increase Melbourne's access to European, Middle Eastern, Balkan and African markets via Istanbul, increasing the potential for tourism, international education and business.
Turkish Airlines, founded in 1933, flies to most destinations in the world with a fleet of 440 aircraft: 345 airports in 129 countries.
