Margaux Daveloose from Assebroek and Noémie Louon from Sprimont accompanied Nina Derwael (TK Sta Paraat Hasselt) and Fien Enghels (Turnkring Geraardsbergen). Lisa Faylin (De Gympies Keerbergen) and Maellyse Brassart (Gym Passion Herseaux) managed to set the overall benchmarks for the European Championship. Due to minor injury and apart from the Olympic Games, this European Championship will not be included in their schedule. Eighty gymnasts from 38 countries are participating in the European Championships. After the final selection test on Saturday in Heerenveen, Netherlands for women and in Ghent for men, JMFD gathered and announced the Belgian team that will represent our country in Basel. Multiple finals After a long period without competitions, nine Belgian athletes will enter our country to defend Switzerland. The European Championship schedule includes qualifiers, comprehensive singles and finals, and equipment finals, and the European Women’s Championship begins on Tuesday 21 April. Our Belgian players compete in Division 1 in the morning and Division 3 in the afternoon. Which gymnasts will be competing as the sub-division will be announced later and closer to the European Championship. The women’s qualifiers will follow on Wednesday 21 April, the all-round final (after selection – top 24) on Friday April 23rd and the jump and bridge final on Saturday April 24th (after selection – top 8). On Sunday, April 25, there will be equipment finals (after selecting the top 8) Olympic Beam and Floor Games our country hopes to participate in several finals. All Belgian eyes will of course be on Nina Derwil, who has not competed since her world title in Stuttgart, in October 2019. There are five men from Belgym who will participate in the European Championship: Florian Landuit (Sportac Deinze), Noah Cuavita (Silok Deurne), Luca Van Den Kebus (Gymteam Sint-Niklaas), Maxime Gentges (GC Malmedy) and Takumi Onoshima (Altanor Gym Club) For the Belgian women, the European Championships are preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo. Currently there are ten players in running for this. Pre-selection will take place again in early June. The gymnasts will participate in the Flanders International Team Challenge in Ghent from 25-27 June. After this international competition, we will know the four players who will make up the Olympic team, which is decided by the selection committee. (ACR)
