Twente and Ajax women survived the previous qualifying round and are on the cusp of the main tournament. It seems that the defending champions have already crossed the threshold, because after a 6-0 win in Switzerland, things cannot get worse for Ajax Women. Or things must go really crazy…
Thanks to Quinty Sabajo and Chasity Grant, Ajax Women were already in good form in the first half and Leuchter made a major contribution after the break. The striker needed just thirteen minutes to score three times, meaning a starting ticket to the group stage was as good as received. Danik Tolhawk completed six parts just before time.
FC Twente also have a chance
This will be the first time that the Ajax women’s team qualifies for the main tournament in the form of the group stage. The group stage has not been played for a long time. This has only been the case since 2021. The 16 participating clubs have since been divided into four groups by lottery.
Maybe the Netherlands will send two teams, just like with the men (Feyenoord and Eindhoven), because Twente’s women are still in the competition as well. Enschede were ahead and behind in Sweden against BK Häcken, but finished 2-2. Taylor Zimmer and Leonie Fleck scored the goals.
Back in Amsterdam and Twente will be next week.
