Bizarre qualifying by Valtteri Bottas ended in Melbourne on Saturday morning. Bottas failed to reach the third quarter, the first since the 103rd weekend.
Bottas finished the 12th stage on Saturday morning, so he will have to get used to not making the 10th summit. It’s a strange circuit that Bottas has now completed, because the series also started in Australia in 2017. Since then, the Finn, who is driving an Alfa Romeo this year, has run 103 races in a row to reach the top 10 in qualifying.
The series continues in 2022
With his departure from Mercedes and his new seat at Alfa Romeo, everyone had already assumed that the series in Bahrain would indeed be over. Nothing was less true, as Bottas managed to qualify for the third quarter in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. He was not able to repeat this feat in Melbourne, but the series will not be forgotten soon.
An impressive series of Q3 appearances has ended
