A special day for The Hague Kwik Football Club: The first rainbow football stadium in the Netherlands was ceremoniously opened today.
By adding token elements of queer acceptance to Field 2, the club wants to send a signal that Quick is a place where everyone can be themselves and feel valued. Chancellor Robert Van Asten and Karen Blankenstein of the John Blankenstein Foundation were present at today’s unveiling.
“Our motto is ‘Train Well, Live Well’. This reflects the core value that everyone at Quick can be themselves and feel accepted,” says Quick’s president, Willem van Nieuwkerk. “An open and respectful attitude towards each other is a prerequisite. This colorful field emphasizes that everyone is welcome and can exercise in a safe environment. For me, the rainbow field radiates joy and positivity, and that makes me very happy.”

The Municipality of The Hague supports sports clubs in creating an inclusive and diverse sports environment. That is why the municipality offers all associations in The Hague the opportunity to decorate one of its sports fields as the Rainbow Stadium or to convey this message in another way. Each initiative is handled on an ad hoc basis, taking into account the specific rules and requirements of the sport in question. Additionally, Rainbow Captain Badges are also available for teams who wish to promote inclusivity while competing.
