Dutch water polo players will face Canada in the middle round of the World Championships in Hungary on Sunday. Greece’s national coach, Evangelos Dodisis, finished second in the group behind the United States, after a 22-1 win over South Africa.
Canada ranked third in Group A. The players lost their last game of the group 11-7 against host country Hungary, which thus plays second in the middle round against Argentina. If the Orange team beat Canada, Spain will be the opponent on Tuesday.
The orange team didn’t have much to fear from South Africa in their last group game. The Orange team won 22-1 (5-1 4-0, 7-0, 6-0). Lola Mulhouseen topped the Dutch team’s top scorer with five goals and Simon van de Kratz four goals. Dodisis, the national team coach, urged the players to be sharper in the second half.
The orange team lost their second group match 11-7 to the United States, the Olympic title holder and world champion, thus finishing second in the group. Only the winner of the group goes directly to the quarter-finals. Argentina won the first match (29-6).
