Writer’s block hit today. Washington Wizards are in a winning streak and I’m not sure what to do. The Washington Mystics is unlikely to take any more significant steps in the free agency era, other than announcing the Natasha Cloud extension at some point in the future.
While looking for ideas, I read an article by Stephanie Haigh of Swish Swish, a French-speaking Belgian women’s basketball website that mainly talks about WNBA (and covers Europa League, etc.), in French only.
Her last article in particular was not in the news. She was a list of 37 wishes she had for next year since she turned 37 yesterday, February 15. happy birth day Stephanie!
The article is in French, but you can use Google Translate for it in English.
When I read it, I finally found something to write about because I really enjoyed it.
Basketball, or rather, all sports bloggers are curious and innovative. In a good way, of course!
Here are some of her wishes, translated into English, to clear up the point I think we all share.
Wish # 10: Cut a movie or series because of an amazing news story (example: 27th option in the 2015 draft Pin a Finger) just fell off and I have to write an article about it. – You’ve been through so many times!
This is exactly the kind of thing I’m famous for: finding a 100-word article, writing 1,000 words, and adding “useless” trivia along the way! I think this is the last example!
Desire # 14: Improve my Dutch to understand interviewers Belgian cats It is Sporza. But Mrs. Haigh … I thought your Dutch was really good! Just don’t talk to anyone “Difficult” From Amsterdam please LOL!
For others, if I don’t talk what I’m talking about, it’s about the Dutch dialects between Belgium and the Netherlands. Here’s a great example, with translation of course.
If you follow the Belgian women’s basketball team closely, most of the players speak Dutch as their native language, including Mystics striker Emma Meesseman. Their matches were also broadcast locally on Sporza, a Belgian sports network in the Dutch language. Not sure if francophone belgian networks stream games often.
Wish # 22: Plan romantic evenings on Sunday nights when the time difference is right for us and be able to water your loved ones with all sorts of things. Let him continue pretending he’s interested. – Enter the LOL emoji here. (I cannot use emojis in our system.)
Wish # 26: Watch Kim Mestdagh again in WNBA and keep calling her “Kimichou”. – I thought you insidiously called “kimchi” for some time.
This is because I have seen that the food is French cabbage and that kimchi is a side dish of sauerkraut with Korean spices.
So … have I missed something here?
Modernization: The word “chou” could also be a symbol for loving “my sweetheart”.
Wish # 29: I hope my two daughters continue to believe that if the last name is Bird, then the first name should be Sue. Not Larry. I don’t hear Larry’s name like Sue here in DMV. But that’s my opinion and Sue is playing after all. Larry is not.
App # 32: See Breanna Stewart’s Medical Reports. She probably didn’t have a ruptured Achilles tendon. Check out this article written by Joe Kennedy last month, my best friend!
We crave a new normal where we can return to basketball matches
Our world has been affected by the Coronavirus for more than a year. In a few weeks, it will be a calendar year since the pandemic hit the sports world. Obviously, some of Stephanie’s desires are in line with what we all want, no matter which side of the Atlantic we’re on.
Wish # 1: Go back to watch basketball games – OK 100!
Order # 7: Eat stadium food filled with melted cheddar cheese (definitely not Hawaiian pizza!) While watching a WNBA game. We can agree not to agree on nachos in the field. So is Hawaiian pizza.
Wish # 9: Watch Becky Hammon become the coach of the NBA franchise. No, but patience is good for two seconds. Let’s just say a growing number of commentators here at BF are embracing the idea of seeing Hammon become the next coach of the Washington Wizards.
Wish # 13: Watch the WNBA Champions return to the White House to celebrate their title. Bonus: Kamala Harris is here too! Since President Joe Biden is from Delaware like Elena Delaware, we can see a makeup visit this summer. You never know!
Wish # 30: Wake up at night on an armchair in the air after one Cling on Photography by Emma Messiman – That’s all Mystics is a fan of!
Desire # 34: See Katie Smith as head coach of another team but without James Dolan as team owner. Smith was head coach of New York City Liberty from 2018-2019, when it was still owned by Madison Square Garden Sports, which was controlled by Dolan.
Stéphanie, as your favorite NBA team, New York Knicks, I think you can relate to the many trials and tribulations that Wizards fans are now going through.
Anyway that’s all I have to say with this piece, but it brought my day as we all hope into a new normal where we can travel and meet again in games. Like Stephanie, I will be turning 37 later this year. June 30 to be exact.
So, Stephanie, if you haven’t come to the capital after the US and EU travel ban, You are always welcome here! Bend over yesterday and lucky!
You are always welcome here! The next game for me!
