Arne Slot had an excellent competitive debut for Liverpool last weekend. The former Feyenoord manager led his new club to a 2-0 win at Ipswich Town and spoke afterwards about the advice he received after his appointment. In addition, Slot himself had some fascinating advice for policymakers at professional clubs in the Netherlands.
“The team hates games that start at 12.30,” says Slot of one of the first things that caught his attention since arriving at Liverpool. “And there are no easy games in the Premier League.” After a difficult first half against the PhD candidate, he could only agree with both pieces of advice.
After sharing his match experiences, Slot wanted to comment on the atmosphere of the Premier League matches he enjoyed. The successful coach also showed his attention to detail there. “What struck me about all the English matches I watched on this opening weekend: there are so many beautiful places for the away fans everywhere,” Slot said in the Algemeen Dagblad. “We should do the same in the Netherlands. Experience helps. And maybe also respect,” he concludes with a piece of advice for Dutch football.
The former Rotterdam coach points to the poor facilities that Dutch professional clubs provide for visiting fans. Most clubs have set up a section for visiting fans in a remote corner of the stadium, surrounded by fences, nets or glass walls that obstruct the view.
