The Wales national football team goes to the European Championship with Gareth Bale as its pictorial head. The 31-year-old Real Madrid striker, who played on loan to former club Tottenham Hotspur last season, is the most famous name in the selection of interim national coach Robert Page. Ryan Giggs is the official coach for Wales, but the former Manchester United player has been in a private relationship for months.
Giggs, 47, is said to have assaulted two women last year. The 64-year-old Wells international is scheduled to appear in court on January 24 next year, as revealed during a hearing in Manchester last week.
Paige, who took over Giggs for months ago, could have a lot of players in the upcoming European Championship who were also there in the previous European Final. Welles then reached the semifinals as one of the juniors. Bale, goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy (Crystal Palace), defender Ben Davis (Tottenham Hotspur) and midfielders Aaron Ramsey (Juventus) and Joe Allen (Stoke City) are the most famous players.
With 19-year-old midfielder Robin Coulwell from Cardiff City, Paige included a player for the first time in his selection for the European Championship. Hal Robson Kano dropped out. The 32-year-old West Bromwich Albion forward scored two goals in the previous European Championship, one of which was in the quarter-final against Belgium (3-1).
Welles will start the European Championship on June 12 in Baku against Switzerland and will continue playing in Group A against Turkey (16 June) and Italy (20 June).
