Westfield Mall of the Netherlands received an award shortly after the mall’s first anniversary. It was awarded the Entree Award for Best New Hospitality Venture, according to the Entree website.
The Entrance Awards jury wrote that superlatives fall short at Westfield Mall, Netherlands. “This mall is huge, gorgeous and non-Dutch, dazzling with its architecture. An attractive destination filled with food, retail, entertainment, hospitality and design. The cohesion between all these aspects is excellent. Handsome on this gigantic rooftop! This is the shopping of the future. A wow factor winner!”
Last week, Westfield Mall of the Netherlands celebrated its first anniversary. In a press release, the mall reported that it attracts more than one million visitors each month. The mall is now 95 per cent occupied by retailers. One of the most unique things about the mall is that the mall operates on revenue-linked rentals and, in special cases, short lease contracts. And according to Teun Koek, COO of parent company Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, working with rentals tied to turnover is a very healthy discipline, according to Koek, in the press release. The system had not been used on this scale in the Netherlands before. “It’s the right incentive for both tenants and landlords to keep improving and innovating, simply because it increases everyone’s turnover.”
